This animated anthology series showcases original stories set in the worlds of iconic video games. Video games have burst onto the screen, and we celebrate the genre by taking a closer look at over 50 adaptations of video games in films and TV shows. Clive Standon reprises his role as Demetrius Titus, the protagonist of the video game Space Marine 2. The episode takes place after the events of the game. Mentioned on Film Junk Podcast: Episode 973: Carry-On (2024). Enriching video game media with content created by talented fans on an unlimited budget sounds great, right? Well ladies and gentlemen, it is! The first 8 episodes were great, each one featuring their own universe of choice. I’ve seen critics say they didn’t take a chance on the show. Have you seen an episode of Pac Man? Because I have, and I feel like they took a chance on that one. The show is stunning, every art style looks well-chosen and mastered (as you would expect from the team of Love Death and Robot), which bodes well for the future, hopefully allowing the video game medium to expand even further. It’s full of Easter eggs, without the show being annoying and pointing me in the right direction with every detail, screaming “DID YOU PLAY THE GAME???” And in the world we live in, that’s already amazing. It’s the first time that people who truly love the game have taken a risk to expand the medium and make us fans happy. The beauty is that even people who have never played the games can enjoy the characters, understand them and empathize with them, and I think that’s a big challenge they’ve met. The show has its flaws, of course some episodes weren’t as great as others (I’m looking at you, New World). Yes, some episodes were short, yes, some jokes were a bit weird, I never said it was perfect, it was just great. One Hundred Years of Solitude is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres of the month. Check out our December calendar for more!
