This is Michel Hazanavicius' the first animated film
Line of Events
In a time torn by war, a poor woodcutter and his wife live in a large forest. One day, a woman finds and rescues a little girl, which causes an irreversible change in the lives of the couple and those in the path of the child.
It tells a story in Poland during World War II, almost like a popular story
This is the best 2024 release I’ve seen this year so far and we’re in the middle of December 2024. Most of the action takes place in the forest, typical of the popular fairy tales mentioned above, where a couple of lumberjacks adopt a Jewish girl who was thrown from a deportation train passing through their forest.
On the technical side, everything is also perfectly done
His father threw him down to save him from certain death in Auschwitz. I won’t go into the details of the plot so you can see them for yourself, I just want to add that the film comes to a deeply philosophical conclusion.
The visuals of the film are excellent
The drawing style is just right, not too detailed or too gritty, depicting mostly dark scenes with dominant shades of grey, emphasizing the horrors of the most infamous war and mass slaughter in human history. And then the soundtrack, which is sublime: The music, the sound effects, the narration and the voice acting (I saw the original version in French) all perfectly suited to present this gem of a film.
