Olivia Burton, 23, moves to California with her boyfriend Francis Morales, 24, against the wishes of their families. Francis’ mother, Lillian, is a devout Catholic who disapproves of her son’s cohabitation and makes her feelings known in the form of violent religious postcards. Despite these objections, the young lovers begin a new, exciting life together. However, their bliss is cut short after a strange accident that leaves them physically and mentally scarred. She soon suffers from night terrors – whispering in her dreams to a figure Olivia cannot see, and walking to strange corners of the house in her sleep. These episodes frighten Olivia and also suggest that Francis may be hiding something from her. Her investigation leads to a frightening and twisted discovery; they are haunted by the ghost of Francis’s young priest from their childhood – a being who is furious at their cohabitation and has come to punish them for their sins.
