Catholic faith and centuries-old tradition
Line of Events
When Cardinal Lawrence is tasked with presiding over one of the world’s most secretive and ancient events, the election of a new pope, he finds himself at the center of a conspiracy that could shake the very foundation of the Catholic Church. Upon the death of the Pope, his ring (called the Fisherman’s Ring) is removed and destroyed. The Vatican officially declares the throne of the Holy See (the governing body of the Catholic Church) vacant.
Ayendin was said to be the first African pope
The Pope’s residence is closed with a crimson ribbon and sealed with a wax papal seal. The College of Cardinals are confined to apartments (called the Domus Sanctae Marthae, or House of Saint Martha) to eat and sleep between votes. The windows and doors of the Sistine Chapel, where the actual election and voting take place, are blacked out, closed, and locked to preserve the secrecy of the conclave.

The Roman Catholic Church had three African popes: Victor I (189-199 AD), Miltiades (also known as Melchiades, 311-314 AD), and Gelasius I (492-496 AD). Hollyweird strikes again!
Conclave is a major disappointment. While it is a feast for the eyes, as it is well shot and directed, with stunning scenery and costumes, the story is laughably dull to the point that I fell asleep several times during the first 45 minutes. The plot also doesn’t really add up to much in the end other than a bunch of politically correct guys telling us the stories they want to tell, not the stories we want to hear, and charging us for the "privilege" that they have to suffer because of their complacency.
